Mw021 - MW030 - Music for mad lifted beat junkies
Catalogue releases MW021-MW029 marked a significant evolution in the label's visual identity with the introduction of the multi-coloured printed sleeve. The first three releases in the sequence (MW021-MW023) shared a common design template, each distinguished by its own colourway.This period also saw the emergence of full-colour artist-designed sleeves. Futura 2000 contributed artwork for MW024, MW025 and MW028, while the label's tradition of collaborating with guest artists continued with 3D of Massive Attack, who designed the sleeve for the Headz compilation (MW026). The sequence concluded with a return to the full-colour printed obi-strip format for MW029.
Musically, MW024 marked the landmark collaboration between DJ Shadow and DJ Krush. The label also began incorporating LP and CD releases into the main MW catalogue sequence, with Strictly Turtablized (MW025) and Headz (MW026) released under the standard MW prefix rather than the previously used MWLP and MWCD designations.
Although assigned catalogue number MW027, DJ Shadow's What Does Your Soul Look Like was released after MW029 and occupies a unique place within the Mo' Wax catalogue. The release appeared across six catalogue-number variants, covering commercial, promotional and format-specific editions. Most notable was the series of coloured-vinyl, one-sided 10-inch promotional releases (MW027P1-MW027P4), which featured exclusive artwork variations and have since become some of the most sought-after items in the Mo' Wax discography.
A diverse range of formats was issued during this period, including a double 10-inch set (MW023), a picture disc (MW028P), the coloured-vinyl one-sided promotional 10-inch series (MW027P1, MW027P3 and MW027P4), double 12-inch releases (MW025 and MW028), and the triple 12-inch Headz compilation (MW026).
